"the good ole days"

CAROLINE BROWN

I woke up one night and had this piece in my head, tugging at me, so I wrote it down in a flurry in the Notes app in my phone. I was originally planning on doing a separate piece about fear for Slant, but the animation you see here just wouldn’t give itself up in imagination. As a graduating senior, I’ve thought a lot about what a good life entails and have tried to overcome my fear about the future. I think this animation is a manifestation of my thoughts and feelings on graduating. It’s meant to be encouraging: we can all challenge ourselves to push past the comfortable, stop skimming, and really dig in to find the full-bodied richness in our lives. Life can be scary and intimidating, and we can find it pleasurable to sink into a comfortable position where we don’t have anything to risk. Yet, if you do that, you miss out on so many experiences. Don’t be afraid to dive deep in your life; once you get a little wet, I’m sure you’ll remember how to swim.
